Community Solar is Coming to Saranac Lake!

Community solar has long been a dream within the Adirondack Park, a region known for its focus on sustainability, conservation, and environmental stewardship. Saranac Lake Community Solar will make that dream a reality, bringing locally generated green power to the region while providing material savings on energy to its residents and businesses.

The project will start generating energy in fall of 2020, but the subscription process will begin in March 2020 via an easy-to-use online platform. In the meantime, subscribe to our mailing list to receive project updates, press coverage, and other useful information straight to your inbox. Subscription will be limited, so stay tuned for the launch of the subscriber platform – you don’t want to miss out!

What is Community Solar?

Most Americans aren’t able to put solar panels on their residences or businesses for a variety of reasons. Community solar fixes this problem through the installation of a locally situated and shared solar farm that is connected to the electricity grid. Residential and commercial customers can subscribe to the solar farm, meaning they agree to purchase electricity credits generated by the array.

Why Should I Do It?

Save up to 10% on your Utility Bill
As a subscriber, National Grid will credit your bill based on the amount of solar credits allocated to you each month. Every dollar of National Grid credit costs just 90 cents!

No Investment Required
This project is made possible by local landowners. There is no up-front investment required, so all you have to do is sign up and enjoy the savings!

Short, Flexible Terms
Subscription Agreements last for one year and can be renewed on an ongoing basis. You can cancel anytime at no cost, provided you give notice.

Simple Renewable Energy
Solar power is sustainable. It generates electricity without noise and without greenhouse gas emissions. As a subscriber, not only will you save money, you’ll be supporting the transition to renewable energy in New York State.

Locally Generated Green Power
The Saranac Lake Community Solar farm will be located just north of Saranac Lake, the first community solar project in the Adirondacks!
